You may have noticed last week that we shared an article implying your workplace may not be doing enough to appease your staff. • 46% of workers believe they’d be happier in another job altogether.
• 31% of people are ashamed of their workspace.

Staff wellbeing is a major component of a happy workforce. Professor Sir Cary Cooper, an expert in workspace happiness and author of ‘Wellbeing: Productivity and Happiness at Work’ says “work can make you sick – and work can make you happy. Which one depends on who you are, what you do and how you are treated at work. So, an improvement in staff wellbeing can be a catalyst to the development of workspaces that encourage happiness, fulfilment and productivity.”

But how do you go about doing this? It doesn’t have to complex in the slightest. 49% of people said having access to healthy snacks was a must, 27% of respondents remarked they’d like an office dog, whilst 23% of those surveyed stated they’d like to be using higher quality stationary. In another interesting statistic, a quarter of workers believe their office is too cramped…

Check out this robot vending machine that delivers snacks to students!

Snack vending has been apparent in schools since the arrival of glass fronted vending machines in the 1960’s and has been streamlined throughout the years to adapt to market trends and innovation. They don’t get much more innovative than this latest development, however, a robot vending machine in the USA known as ‘Snackbot’ that allows students to have their snacks personally delivered to them!

What is Snackbot?

On trial at the University of the Pacific in Stockton, California, Snackbot was developed by Robby Technologies and partnered by PepsiCo. It consists of a small body perched atop 6 wheels and connects to an app that students can download to their smartphones. The electric vehicle includes a camera and headlights and is capable of travelling up to 20 miles on a single charge, even up hills and in poor conditions such as rain!

The thoughts behind Snackbot.

Scott Finlow, vice president for innovation and insights at PepsiCo Foodservice, believes students are becoming less inclined to eat three fixed meals a day and Snackbot conforms to the demands of ‘on-the-go’ snacking.

“Whether it is outside a dorm room, outside a lecture hall or outside the cafeteria or library, now students will be able to get food delivered to them. We worked hard to design something so simple that only requires students to download a Snackbot app and plug in their university email.” Finlow said that the trial consists of three robots but that number will increase over time.

Instead of interrupting classes, an obvious problem foreseen with such an idea, Snackbot follows a less intrusive form of delivery. After downloading the app and placing an order, students can select from 50 designated delivery locations across the 175-acre campus.

How can Snackbot helps colleges and students?

Snackbot follows plenty of companies that are embracing food delivery services, such as Uber Eats, Grubhub and DoorDash, all of which extend around the globe. Services like these were developed as students were ignoring college canteens and kitchens and preferred to utilise ‘takeaways’ so to speak. Many were also bringing food on site, but the problem with this was staff had to ensure students were only bringing food on site that they were allowed to. The staff simply weren’t equipped with such a large number of students that chose to do this.

Snackbot is a revolutionary way to help combat the issue. Staff know that the food being delivered is allowed on site and products available to be ordered are the ones found in PepsiCo’s Hello Goodness vending machines. These include common items enjoyed across the pond, such asSmartfood Delight, Baked Lay’sand Pure Leaf Tea. What’s more, retaining the takeaway sort of system means students don’t have to leave campus during break or dinner time, therefore allowing more time for them to get on with their work.

Snackbot. A revolution.

Whilst there doesn’t seem to be any plans to bring this idea to the UK anytime soon, it does show the rate in which ‘vending’ is progressing through innovation. Fresh milk vending machine launches with the help of Coinadrink Limited!

Ever fancied getting your milk from a vending machine instead of nipping to the corner shop? Residents of Shropshire now can, thanks to H W Chatham & Co farm in Brockton, near Shifnal in Shropshire.

The Shropshire farm is one of a number of farms that have begun selling fresh milk to the customer, essentially cutting out the middle man. In the hunt to reduce plastic from our environment, customers are encouraged to use glass bottles from the machine shown in the video below. This has proved particularly popular.

The farm contacted us last year in the hunt for a machine that could safely dispense the empty glass bottles. They had already sourced a state of the art machine to dispense partially pasteurised milk from an unattended retail solution and wanted our assistance.

We had a chat with them regarding their requirements and we soon realised that the best option was the Crane Shopper 2 carousel machine. We had to tailor create a solution to stop the bottles rolling around when the carousel was in use, which would minimise the risk of any potential breakages. As you can see from the video, we were successful!

The machine was installed by our in-house team and comprehensive training was given to the client on how to safely use the machine by our Technical Support Manager. With the help pf cash and credit card payment options, it has been an extremely popular project.

A litre of organic milk from the machine costs £1.30. A small price to pay for bringing the community together and supporting local farms. We’re delighted that our support has helped to ensure H W Chatham & Co’s exciting adventure continues to be a success for them. The farm is now offering fresh eggs and cheese in addition to fresh milk as they see demand rising.

When the going gets tough, reach for a coffee from your vending machine!

We all hit that point in the day when our body and brain can seemingly do no more. Maybe it’s towards the end of the day, the mid way point or even at the start, but there will come a time when we need a little shove in order to work to the best of our ability. It’s usually when we reach for a cup of coffee from the vending machine.

What is Adenosine? 

It’s no secret that caffeine helps with fatigue, which we’re all struggling to fight against this time of the year. It’s cold, dark, wet and finances have taken a hit after a busy Christmas period. The concerning reality is that many of us lack that ‘get up and go’ for the New Year, so the hot drinks machine is probably seeing more usage than usual. A new study into workplace behaviour has found that nine in ten workers believe high quality coffee makes them feel more engaged at work, proving that making employees feel valued is crucial. In fact, the research shows that 75% of workers across the UK feel high quality coffee in the office shows that their wellbeing matters most to the employer.

New white Twix coming to a vending machine near you soon!

Big news for white chocolate lovers! The delicious white Twix bar has made a permanent return and we’re delighted to say that we’ll be bringing it to a snack machine near you very shortly. After a successful limited-edition run of the bar in 2017, Mars decided to bring it back for good at the back end of the year and it will be available in both single and twin form, just like the original.

According to an article from Candy Central published last May, whilst most people do prefer milk chocolate over any other variety, white chocolate is designed for the sweetest of sweet tooth’s and clearly appeals to a lot of people. Personally, I tend to opt for milk chocolate over white, but it is a nice change from time to time and having such a wide range of chocolate on offer in your machine can only be a good thing, right?

The New Year is now upon us and with that comes a host of resolutions that we’d all love to stick to. From eating healthier to hitting the gym at least a couple of times a week, we’re all desperate to better ourselves after a Christmas period undoubtedly consumed with lots of alcohol and lots of chocolate…Step one, before anything else however, is to set manageable goals.

In many ways 2018 was a chaotic 12 months, so looking after your physical and mental health are probably the most important resolutions to think about as we start the New Year. Simple aspects of life such as exercise, hydration and healthy eating introduces a happier lifestyle that is hard to put a price on, but we know better than anyone that it doesn’t need to be difficult to enjoy. Sticking to healthier activities can be harder during the working day, but just think of the benefits that are there to be had…

Keep hydrated.

Keeping hydrated is a simple New Year’s resolution that is important to stick to.

We’ve long been aware that hydration carries numerous health benefits, from improving energy levels to increasing brain function. It needn’t be a chore, but you do need motivation, especially when it’s so easy to get lost in the wave of the stresses and strains of the modern world. Our employees regularly take advantage of our water cooler in reception, a focal point for a higher productivity level.

Healthy eating.

I know all too well that it can be difficult to stick to this, especially if you have a sweet tooth like me. Like I said at the beginning of this article, though, setting manageable goals are important. Completely cutting chocolate or crisps out of your diet isn’t necessary, but you can combine such goodies with healthier choices. Whilst it’s hard when you’re at work, again staying motivated is key.
