Next stop: a higher productivity level in the workplace!

New research from XpertHR has suggested that employers are finally wising up to the importance of workplace wellbeing…which will be music to the ears of employees up and down the country. In a new article published only last week, more than half of employers (54.4%) are said to run informal employee wellbeing initiatives and the positive facts and figures don’t end there.

Among those employers who do not have an employee wellbeing programme in place, 67.7% of them say they plan to implement one in the next 12 months.

It’s pleasing to finally see such a commitment to the cause, especially when the benefits of a wellbeing programme may not be clear for at least a year prior to the programme being implemented. Cost is of course an issue to this, but a potential higher productivity level amongst the workforce is surely worth it? According to the figures, it does indeed seem to be the case.

What is an EPA?

The article from Workplace Insight suggests that there are two standout areas that impact employee wellbeing: offering employee assistance programmes and providing sick pay above the statutory amount. The former, known as EAP’s, are intended to help employees deal with problems that may adversely affect their work performance, health and wellbeing.

Xpert HR practice editor Noelle Murphy says: “it is when an employee is at their most vulnerable that they need this kind of support, so removing as many blockers as possible and reassuring employees of their confidentiality is vital.”

We’ve posted an article like this before, but there seems to be few new machines popping up now so it’s only right to share an ‘update’. It’s hard to believe that such vending machines around the world exist, especially when you primarily deal in workplace refreshments like us! But without further ado, here’s some of the best vending machines from around the world…

Gold Vending Machine – Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Yes, you really did read that right. Developed by German firm Ex Oriente Lux, the Gold to Go vending machine can be found at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. This staggering machine dispenses genuine gold bullion in one, five and ten gram variants, so you could think of it as a glamourized ATM!

Car Vending Machine – Arizona, USA

We actually produced a blog post on this last year! Known as Carvana, this vending machine stands as tall as a typical office building and has a futuristic feel and look to its structure. The company that founded the machine are an Arizona based tech start-up who sell cars online as well as through the vending machine. It sounds crazy, but having recently expanded to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Washington DC they must be successful!

Fast Food Vending Machine – The Netherlands

With growing demand and lengthy queues, fast food isn’t quite as fast as it was originally intended to be. FEBO, a company originating from The Netherlands, have come up with an exciting solution called ‘vending machine restaurants.’ The eateries serve a wide range of food including hamburgers, croquettes and deep fried sausages, all of which are freshly made in-house.

Pizza Vending Machine – Italy

Let’s Pizzawas developed by Claudio Torghele, a former pasta company exec who was intrigued by the vending machines he saw at the US Food Courts. Whilst the original machine was developed in Beverly Hills, there have since been additional ones spotted in Chicago and Texas to name just a few cities.

No weird vending machines here, but they are wonderful!

Remember when we were finalists in the Tomorrow’s FM Awards 2018?

We noticed last week that the Tomorrow’s FM Awards are back underway and the line of finalists have been selected. It got us thinking about when we were nominated as finalists back in 2018, a very prestigious nomination indeed. Coinadrink is proud to deliver cutting edge vending products and services to the Facilities Management industry and whilst we chose not to enter this year, we’re always willing to show our support to everything that’s great about the industry. 

What are the Tomorrow’s FM Awards?

It’s probably best to explain what the Facilities Management industry is first and foremost. FM is a professional management discipline focused upon the efficient and effective delivery of support services for the organisations that it serves. This may include services to enhance a workplace, such as workplace refreshments or better equipment to help employees get on with their role.

The Tomorrow’s FM Awards is a collection of everything that is great about the Facilities Management Industry. Now in its eighth year, the FM industry has once again had no trouble picking a few standout candidates for the FM Awards 2019. The industry hasn’t been without its challenges over the past 12 months, most notably thanks to the Carillion collapse in January 2018, but it’s came through even stronger than before.

48 finalists will now battle it out to be crowned the winner.

We were finalists in 2018!

Or, rather, our branch division Express Refreshments was, for the FM Awards 2018. The foundations of our Micro Market stem around the wellbeing and productivity of the workforce so we saw a golden opportunity to put it forward as an entry. And as it turned out, we were very successful.

The judges saw the appeal of a self-service convenience store for the workplace, laden with extensive refreshments, including healthier items, for the working day and beyond. The fact that we can tie the Micro Market into a break out area was particularly favourable, as it promotes a genuine break time and staff engagement.

Although we didn’t win in the FM Awards 2018, it was a fantastic honour to be nominated as a finalist.

Personally, I was quite interested to read about Levitate Aerial, a drone deploy application that utilises artificial intelligence to identify and measure different roof and edge types, including surface areas, valleys, and ridges. This enables the user to quickly deliver the data that is essential to things such as roof repairs, assessments and insurance claims. Could this be of interest to you?

Elsewhere, Renoo, responsible for infrared pothole repair services, is quite an interesting service, as is ERA Lockdown, who are home security specialists. I’ll attach the virtual magazine, so you can get an idea yourself as to some of the standouts. Voting will be carried out by you, the reader, so it’s a good opportunity to know exactly what you are voting for.

Staff wellbeing is a major component of a happy workforce. Professor Sir Cary Cooper, an expert in workspace happiness and author of ‘Wellbeing: Productivity and Happiness at Work’ says “work can make you sick – and work can make you happy. Which one depends on who you are, what you do and how you are treated at work. So, an improvement in staff wellbeing can be a catalyst to the development of workspaces that encourage happiness, fulfilment and productivity.”

How happy are your workforce?

But how do you go about doing this? It doesn’t have to complex in the slightest. 49% of people said having access to healthy snacks was a must, 27% of respondents remarked they’d like an office dog, whilst 23% of those surveyed stated they’d like to be using higher quality stationary. In another interesting statistic, a quarter of workers believe their office is too cramped…
